The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO-6) will deploy 1,500 personnel to help secure delegates for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Senior Officials’ Meeting (ASEAN SEOM) Retreat on Dec. 10 – 13 in Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.

In a media briefing on Monday, PRO-6 director Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan said they will provide security to around 200 delegates and even tourists visiting the island.

“Good to note that Boracay Island is isolated. It is easy to secure in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Maritime (Police). They will be in charge of the shoreline,” he said.

He added they have not isolated any area in Boracay, and the island will remain open to guests and visitors.

Of the total police strength, around 500 will come from other provinces in Western Visayas, and the rest will come from Aklan.

Ligan said they will set up the multi-agency coordinating center in the area.

They will have a send-off activity at the Aklan Police Provincial Office on Dec. 7. (PNA)
