A total of 174 qualified senior citizens in Borongan City, Eastern Samar received PHP10,000 each in cash assistance from the national government during a distribution activity held last week.

The city government, in a statement on Monday, said the assistance was granted to octogenarians and nonagenarians through the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).

Beneficiaries included senior citizens who turned 80 and 85, as well as those aged 90 and 95, between March and December 2024 and from June to September 2025.

The distribution was facilitated by representatives from the NCSC regional office, in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs.

Barangay senior citizen presidents were also present to assist beneficiaries from their respective communities.

Senior citizens who were unable to personally claim their cash gifts were allowed to authorize a family member or representative to receive the assistance on their behalf.

“A centenarian also received PHP100,000 from the national government in accordance with Republic Act No. 10868, or the Centenarians Act of 2016, which grants additional benefits to Filipinos upon reaching the age of 100,” the city government said.

In addition, the Borongan City local government unit awarded a separate cash incentive of PHP50,000 to the city’s centenarian pursuant to Ordinance No. 129, Series of 2017, which honors and provides additional benefits to Boronganon centenarians. (PNA)
