The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Monday highlighted efforts to modernize the sector to boost trade and investment opportunities with Europe.

In a statement, the BOC said it conducted a collaboration meeting with the European Union-ASEAN Business Council and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines last May 23.

“This collaboration represents a significant milestone in our efforts to strengthen economic ties with European businesses,” BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said.

Rubio noted that the meeting highlighted both parties’ support for the “resumption of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations between the Philippines and the European Union.”

Through this, the Philippines is expected to further boost ties with Europe, with the aim to make the country a “premier business destination” for the latter.

The commissioner, meanwhile, emphasized the significance of transitioning to paperless transactions through a modernization program.

“By enhancing our modernization program and streamlining our processes, we aim to create a seamless and efficient trade environment that benefits both parties,” he said.

The BOC also mentioned one of its efforts to streamline processes in the agency, particularly the one-stop-shop system.

Through the said system, the BOC is able to receive donations in times of calamity with ease. (PNA)
