Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio pleads to the Philippine President Bongbong for the protection of Masungi Georeserve.

In an Instagram post, he shared educational information about Masungi and urged for its protection from mining, logging, and illegal developments.

Masungi Georeserve started the restoration efforts after the majority of Masungi was illegally deforested in the late 1990s.

This initiative led to taller trees, increase in wildlife, and more locals becoming involved.

At present, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is threatening to cancel the agreement that protects Masungi from land-grabbing exploitation.

The actor added in his post, “This cancellation would set back the success of an internationally acclaimed conservation effort and leave the area vulnerable again to mining, logging, and illegal developments.”

The Hollywood star mentioned the President in the caption of the post to raise his concerns.
