Philippine Army (PA) commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido has expressed gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his approval of the increase in the daily subsistence allowance of all military personnel from PHP150 to PHP350.

“Mr. President, thank you very much for the increase in our subsistence allowance. Our soldiers will be assured that they have proper nourishment in their very active profession,” Galido said in his speech during the Army’s 128th founding anniversary over the weekend, which the President graced.

This increase was made possible through Executive Order (EO) 84 signed by the Chief Executive on March 14, which would be given retroactively starting Jan. 1, 2025.

Last week, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the release of PHP16.89 billion to cover the measure’s funding requirements.

Galido, meanwhile, said the Army is also boosting the support system of soldiers in the field, which includes providing proper nutrition by deploying “mobile kitchen trailers capable of serving meals quickly even in the most challenging terrains.”

Aside from this, Galido said transportation support for the PA has also been strengthened with civilian transport mobilization integrated into their system.

This includes tapping PA-affiliated reserve units, which, he said, will ensure rapid response during emergencies.

“Our strength lies in our troops. That is why we are ensuring that our soldiers are well-trained, well-equipped, and well-supported. Our revitalized training program guarantees a standardized, high-quality experience, while one recruitment program streamlines enlistment, ensuring only the best and most capable individuals join our ranks,” Galido added.

While all these improvements are ongoing, the PA chief said leadership remains a priority as highlighted by ongoing mentorship programs that build confidence and character.

“Beyond combat training, our trust is to equip our troops with technical skills that will serve them in and beyond military life by providing a holistic approach to soldier development,” he added. (PNA)
