The Philippines and Malaysia are expected to see increased naval cooperation and exercises.

This came following the courtesy call of Royal Malaysian Navy head, Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Bin Ithnain to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. on Wednesday at the Bulwagang Balangiga in Camp Aguinaldo, the AFP said in a statement Wednesday night.

“Both leaders engaged in a constructive discussion on regional security, interoperability, and mutual interests in maintaining peace and stability in Southeast Asia. Gen. Brawner expressed appreciation for the continued collaboration between the two nations’ naval forces,” it said.

The meeting between the two military officials reflects the shared commitment of the Manila and Kuala Lumpur to uphold strong defense relations and promote cooperation in addressing common maritime challenges.

“The meeting concluded with an exchange of mementos and renewed pledges of mutual support and camaraderie,” the AFP said. (PNA)
