The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is urging technical and vocational (tech-voc) training institutions to register and offer micro-credential courses.

“Courses registered or recognized by TESDA have a corresponding certification, and are stackable, which can form a complete national certification,” TESDA Public Information Office Executive Director Floramel Joy Songsong told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday.

“Through micro-credentialing, we create modular and stackable learning pathways that make training faster, more flexible, and more responsive to industry needs. This approach ensures that Filipinos can continuously upgrade their skills and remain competitive in a rapidly changing job market,” TESDA Secretary Jose Francisco Benitez said in a statement.

Micro-credential courses have shorter durations and are ideal for upskilling or getting employment.

Examples of micro-credential courses are language courses, and Songsong said that most of the time, overseas employment requires taking a language course.

To date, TESDA has registered 335 micro-credential courses offered by 167 institutions nationwide.

“By registering micro-credential courses, we can support not just individual growth but also stimulate innovation, generate jobs, and strengthen industries that are driving the country’s economic recovery,” Benitez was quoted as saying.

He added that broadening micro-credential offerings will help bridge skills gaps across priority sectors.

Interested institutions may coordinate with the TESDA regional or provincial offices for the registration process and requirements, he said. (PNA)
