Sagay City in Negros Occidental is honoring its identity as a coastal and creative city with a marine-themed Christmas Fair this year.

The set-up at the public plaza themed “Keep on Shining” features a jellyfish-shaped Christmas tree as the centerpiece, alongside a giant parol (lantern) and a Nativity scene.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva said this year’s theme “reflects the character and compassion that Sagaynons show even in difficult times.”

“The true light of Sagay does not come from decorations but from its people, whose unity and dedication continue to brighten the city’s path forward,” he said.

Shimmering marine creature-inspired décors with soft blue, white, and yellow lights light up the plaza at night.

The northern Negros city hosts the 32,000-hectare Sagay Marine Reserve established under Republic Act 9106, which provides stricter protection and more stringent regulations to reduce illegal fishing methods.

Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III said the Christmas Fair highlights the resilience of Sagaynons, who recently experienced four typhoons but continue to stand strong.

“There remains much to be grateful for in 2025. Through your abilities and character, a Sagaynon can lead and shine,” he said.

The Christmas Fair, which runs until Dec. 23, offers nightly activities, such as school and community presentations, and acoustic and full-band performances.

The final night will feature the Christmas Fair 2025 Musicfest.

At the Taliambong Activity Center, 18 stalls selling local crafts, food products, and holiday items are open daily. (PNA)
