President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday called on the newly promoted generals and flag officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to lead with integrity and humility while defending the country with honor and courage.

“We are reminded today that this oath-taking is a reaffirmation of a sacred trust, the respect for the Constitution, service to the Filipino people, and loyalty to the Republic,” Marcos said during the mass oath-taking of newly promoted AFP generals and flag officers and graduates of the foreign Pre-Commissioned Training Institutions at Malacañan Palace.

Marcos urged the AFP officers to fulfill their obligations to protect the country’s sovereignty, uphold national security, and safeguard the freedom of every Filipino.

He said their promotion affirms that the AFP’s loyalty is anchored to the Constitution, democratic institutions, and the Filipino people.

He noted that in recent months, the government has undertaken steps to ensure that the AFP “remains a model of discipline, competence, and service.”

“As you open another chapter, you also accept greater responsibility to lead with wisdom, restraint, and moral clarity. Your promotion reflects a nation’s confidence in your integrity and professionalism, your dedication to duty,” Marcos said.

“May you always wear the stars on your shoulders as daily reminders of your duty to lead with integrity, to serve with humility, and, if necessary, fight for the Republic with honor and courage,” he added.

Marcos reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the AFP, citing its unwavering commitment to modernize the armed forces to boost defense capabilities and morale.

He also cited his recent decision to raise the base pay and daily subsistence allowance of military and uniformed personnel in recognition of their efforts to address existing and emerging security challenges.

The President expressed optimism that the military would join his administration in building a “stronger, more secure Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines).” (PNA)
