The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) expressed full support for local government units (LGUs) offering free medical services to their constituents, describing these initiatives as vital in ensuring the public’s access to healthcare.

In Quezon City, Barangay Pinyahan has rolled out its medical services, offering residents free consultations, medicines and preventive care.

Similar programs are being implemented in other LGUs nationwide as part of efforts to bring health services closer to the people.

“Health should not be a privilege but a right of every citizen. Every step that makes healthcare more accessible is an investment in the dignity and resilience of our communities,” the department said in a press release on Saturday.

“The DILG fully supports LGUs that put the health of their people first, because these efforts save lives, ease the burden on families, and help build a stronger nation.”

The Department stressed that such programs are aligned with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Bagong Pilipinas (New Philippines) agenda, which highlights social protection and responsive public services.

“By empowering LGUs, the government aims to guarantee that no Filipino is left behind in accessing essential healthcare,” it added.

The DILG assured continued support for LGUs in sustaining and expanding community-based medical programs. (PNA)
