The Department of Energy (DOE) on Monday said the country has sufficient fuel supply until May, with additional diesel shipments scheduled to arrive in April to further bolster reserves.

In an online briefing, Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said the country has an average of 50.94 days’ worth of fuel supply as of March 27.

Breakdown figures show gasoline stocks will last 59.78 days; diesel, 46.93 days; kerosene, 107.88 days; jet fuel, 62.69 days; fuel oil, 57.27 days; and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), 34.02 days.

“DOE through the PNOC-EC (Philippine National Oil Company-Exploration Corporation) procured 165.7 million liters or 1.042 million barrels of diesel secured through April to strengthen national fuel supply,” Garin said.

The procurement, carried out under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. through Executive Order No. 110, forms part of the DOE’s Emergency Energy Security Program aimed at ensuring a stable and sufficient oil supply nationwide.

The first shipment — 142,000 barrels from Japan — arrived on March 26.

Garin said additional deliveries are expected in the coming weeks: 300,000 barrels from Malaysia/Singapore in early April; another 300,000 barrels from North Asia or India by mid-April; and 300,000 barrels from Oman/Singapore by the end of April.
In a separate statement, Garin said the staggered arrival of shipments reflects the government’s proactive approach to managing fuel supply amid ongoing volatility in global oil markets.

“This is a concrete demonstration of the government’s resolve to act early, act decisively, and protect the national interest. By securing these deliveries and scheduling their arrival through April, we are reinforcing domestic supply, supporting critical sectors, and helping ensure that the country remains responsive and resilient amid continued uncertainty in the global oil market,” Garin said.

She added that the DOE will continue to pursue measures such as international coordination, close collaboration with government agencies, and sustained monitoring of the domestic market to ensure fuel availability and mitigate external supply shocks.

The government is also exploring additional supply for LPG and jet fuel, she said.

Meanwhile, DOE Oil Industry Management Bureau Director Rino Abad said Petron is expecting a delivery of about 477 million liters of crude oil next week, followed by another 317 million liters the week after.

“Next next week, we’ll be expecting an additional 317 million liters of crude oil. Around 19 percent of the production ratio of Petron goes to the production of LPG and it adds up to the increase in our day supply,” he said.

The DOE said it is closely coordinating with industry stakeholders to monitor inventory levels, facilitate timely distribution of incoming shipments, and prevent supply bottlenecks that could disrupt transport, logistics, power generation and other economic activities. (PNA)
