The International Labor Organization (ILO) has reaffirmed the compliance of the Philippine Seafarer’s Identity Document (SID) with international standards after the conclusion of an independent evaluation.

In a statement on Monday, Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Sonia Malaluan welcomed the positive assessment by the ILO and underscored the government’s commitment to continuous improvement.

“We are dedicated to enhancing our systems further to ensure that our SID remains secure, efficient, and globally recognized,” Malaluan said.

The Philippine SID’s evaluation was led by ILO’s Dr. John William Campbell, and was concluded during a closing ceremony at the MARINA Central Office on Friday.

During the event, Campbell commended MARINA’s performance saying “everything is on track.”

He described the SID issuance process as a “very good system” that has operated reliably in recent years.

The evaluation covered MARINA’s Central Office and Regional Offices VI and VII and was meant to safeguard the identity and credibility of Filipino seafarers in the global maritime sector. (PNA)
