In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive of transforming the Filipino military into a world-class force, the Department of National Defense (DND) on Tuesday announced that the 26th Philippines-Republic of Korea (ROK) Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation successfully concluded on Feb. 7.

In a statement, DND spokesperson Assistant Secretary Arsenio Andolong said the JCM took place in Busan, South Korea, reaffirming the strong defense partnership between the two nations.

“Led by DND Assistant Secretary for Logistics and Acquisition Joselito Ramos, the Philippine delegation was composed of key officials from the DND and the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines). Vice Minister Kang Hwan Seug of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) headed the Republic of Korea’s delegation (ROK) with representatives from DAPA, the ROK defense industry, and the Korean Embassy in the Philippines in attendance,” he said.

Andolong said the discussions focused on defense modernization, technology transfer, and joint initiatives aimed at enhancing regional security.

He added the ROK reiterated its commitment to supporting the Philippines’ ongoing military capability development, underscoring the importance of collaboration in addressing evolving security challenges.

Meanwhile, Andolong said Ramos expressed his appreciation to Vice Minister Kang for their delegation’s hospitality, emphasizing the Philippines’ dedication to deepening its strategic ties with South Korea.

“He (Ramos) highlighted the shared values of peace, stability, and prosperity, underscoring the mutual interest in developing strong and sustainable defense capabilities,” he said.
