Vietnam Electricity’s Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) said it sustained its growth trajectory through August 2026, reporting commercial electricity sales of 11.053 billion kWh for the month, a 7.5 percent increase from the same period in 2025. Cumulative output for the first eight months of the year reached 79.16 billion kWh, up 12.05 percent year on year and equivalent to 67.81 percent of the annual plan assigned by parent company Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
The utility, which supplies 17 provinces and cities across northern Vietnam, said it kept power loss rates under control even as demand climbed. The August loss rate stood at 3.09 percent, bringing the eight-month cumulative rate to 3.54 percent, a decline of 0.05 percentage points compared with the same period last year and below EVN’s internal target.
On infrastructure, EVNNPC said it began construction on nine projects in August and energized three at the 110kV voltage level, part of a broader push to expand grid capacity ahead of peak demand in the closing months of the year. The company highlighted its Battery Energy Storage System deployments, including installations at 110kV substations in Bac Ninh and Ninh Binh, as contributing to improved grid regulation and support during periods of high load.
Rooftop solar continued to expand under Vietnam’s self-produced, self-consumed generation framework. EVNNPC added 2,563 new rooftop solar customers in August, representing 105.7 MW of capacity, bringing the cumulative total for the year to 14,044 customers and 605.6 MW. As of August 31, the utility’s total base of self-consumption rooftop solar customers reached 15,643, with a combined installed capacity of 929.3 MW.
EVNNPC also noted operational strain from Storm Narra and subsequent heavy rainfall in late August, which affected power supply in Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong and Bac Ninh; the company said crews worked to restore service quickly to affected customers. Around the National Day holiday on September 2, EVNNPC assigned nearly 1,000 duty shifts across the corporation and its units to maintain readiness for weather-related incidents.
